"Our lives started again when you came to be."
Oh these three. The sweetest bonds between them, and it's so clear when you flick through their gallery. How lucky I was to bear witness to it.
Oh beautiful Ted. We braved the drizzle and cold winds for these pretty portraits. Well worth the wet feet and sand leaving my shoes even two weeks later. Plus, those wet weather skies? Best.
I edited this entire gallery to this song. These girls are two of the brightest lights I've had the pleasure of photographing. Bec has been a long time family friend, and her daughter Arabella (three years) has to be the most spirited child we have had the pleasure of watching grow. Their love is a beautiful, and I think you'll agree after looking at this gallery that their bond is so undeniably strong. As Bec and I walked back from the beach, I explained to her how important what she just did was. She photographed her love for her child, and the two of them will be able to look back on these for many, many years to come. That right there fills my heart with the kind of joy that keeps me up editing all night long.
Happy weekend X

When I was first 'starting out' in photography, I used to style my own shoots for fun. My friends and I would pick out pretty faces, source clothing from boutiques around Adelaide, and travel to a location spend the afternoon shooting somewhere. Those photographs are actually still pinned to my bedroom wall, because god, they were some good times. Those photographs also serve as a daily reminder that this began as a hobby for me and it's where my heart is. I didn't set out to make a photography a career, I fell in love with it. That's incredibly cliche, especially for 2pm in the afternoon, but it's true all the same.
This leads me to a point, I promise. What I'm focusing on at the moment, is keeping the hobby aspect alive. I want to allow myself the time to photograph for fun, no matter how hectic things become. I want to allow time to fall deeper and deeper.
After Wednesday's shoot, I felt so completely invigorated and alive. I couldn't sleep that night or the night after. Every time I'd wake, I'd think of the photographs and I'd want to keep working. I'm a 8 hours-a-night sleeper, so this has taken it's toll but you know what? I am fine, I am so happy. I'll take the clumsiness & fogginess that comes with lack of sleep any day of the week if it means I feel as alight as I do after shooting something like this.
My deepest thanks to Anastasia & Caroline from Elly & Elm for bringing this shoot to life. Just before I went to Japan, I texted Anastasia a photograph I saw and loved. I said: "can we make this" and honestly, that's all I had to say. When I came home, it was done. These women are incredibly creative and hardworking. They have an eye for detail that I have yet to see anywhere else.
Thank you to Steph & Alex for volunteering your time to model for us. You were brilliant and I adore you both. And finally, thank you to our other talented vendors for your services. I have so much love for everyone, I feel like I might burst if I don't write it out here. So thank you!
