Oh baby Parker, what a delight you were. Parker and his family came into the studio in May and he slept like a dream the whole time, right up until we began taking portraits with his Mum & Dad. And that last frame from the session, the one just above this, one of my favourites. His little expression is priceless.
"...the symbol that whispers: all of my yesterday's & all of my tomorrow's"
Photographing these two was like photographing two of my oldest friends. For whatever reason, it felt like I had known these two for years. They let me in, and allowed me to photograph their love. My job really was easy because their connection is so palpable.
So Georgia & Chris, thank you again for such a beautiful night. You two are special.
People say to me 'weddings, wow, that's special!' I get it all the time, even when I tell people I photograph both weddings and newborn babies. I hear them loud and clear, weddings are a pretty incredible thing to be a part of. You are invited into an extremely intimate and soul marking day. It is special. You are correct.
But do you know what else is just as special? I photograph babies who haven't even yet met all their relatives. Babies who are just days old. I see love unfold between a mother and a father who are learning the creases and lines and face of their child. I watch siblings who don't quite understand the fuss, but already hold such a connection. I feel it all. This is so overlooked, because nobody stops to properly think about that. This is special. This is so, special. What an overwhelming privilege to create for families, for the baby, memories that are to keep.
This isn't a wedding, but this is the first few days of life. This is the beginning. This is all of it preserved for you, when it eventually blurs and fades. And for that reason, I will never not love what unfolds in my tiny little studio.
""First we had each other, and then we had you. Now we have everything."
"Thank you for teaching us to marvel at the ordinary and the simple; for reminding us of all the beauty within plants, trees, skies and clouds. Because of all the many things we love you for, perhaps this is the thing we cherish most."
Beautiful family & beautiful light - there's not much else you need really. Thank you for inviting me to photograph your lovely love, Miteloudis Family.
