People say to me 'weddings, wow, that's special!' I get it all the time, even when I tell people I photograph both weddings and newborn babies. I hear them loud and clear, weddings are a pretty incredible thing to be a part of. You are invited into an extremely intimate and soul marking day. It is special. You are correct.
But do you know what else is just as special? I photograph babies who haven't even yet met all their relatives. Babies who are just days old. I see love unfold between a mother and a father who are learning the creases and lines and face of their child. I watch siblings who don't quite understand the fuss, but already hold such a connection. I feel it all. This is so overlooked, because nobody stops to properly think about that. This is special. This is so, special. What an overwhelming privilege to create for families, for the baby, memories that are to keep.
This isn't a wedding, but this is the first few days of life. This is the beginning. This is all of it preserved for you, when it eventually blurs and fades. And for that reason, I will never not love what unfolds in my tiny little studio.
"These are the longest days of the shortest season."
Emilie & Lexi, how lovely it was to spend three precious hours with you two. I am so glad this Mother/Daughter will be able to hold onto these photographs for years & years to come. PS: Just look at those tiny, pouty lips!
Just a few favourites from Rohan's newborn session in the studio. As per usual, the pictures taken with his loved up parents are some of my favourites in the set.
Happy Thursday, all.
